I managed to get into the studio yesterday for a little bit and was able to work on my print for Kate Gorringe-Smith Overwintering Project’s 10 year celebration next year in 2027 ❤️ In 2019, I was involved in the Overwintering project while working with Hobsonsbay City Council - Woods St Art-Space, facilitating workshops alongside Kate Gorringe-Smith and Geoffrey Riccardo.
I fell in love with the Eastern Curlew while birdwatching at Altona Beach at this time. Inspired by its golden plumage and distinctive curved beak, I was able to capture this bird in a three-colour screen print. Each stencil was hand-cut and printed in my studio. It will be exhibited at Latrobe University and look forward to seeing the 400+ prints and the artists involved in the show. Overwintering supports the research of migrational shore birds BirdLife Australia Those interested still have time to get your print in by Nov 1st. Link in bio for details

Mixing it up - lining it up - pulling it up. The moment of truth…hold breath and ahhhhhhh YES! The process is the bit I enjoy the most about my artistic practice. Looking forward to an hour or so in the studio on this rainy day ⚡️🌧️☔️

Do you know of the Flame Robin? This little bird visits the Great Ocean Road during Autumn and Winter. They are symbolic to me as when I grew up my grandmother and father had two Royal Doulton figurines on their mantle piece of these gorgeous birds. We were not allowed to touch them. Every time we visited I would go up to them, and look very closely how beautiful they were… After many years of living away we returned to Geelong/ Surf Coast area and were walking down at Moggs creek and I saw this little bird for REAL LIFE. Well maybe a member of his family, but it always reminds me of how special and connected you become to objects and nature for different reasons. We have these figurines at home now and I really treasure them. This linen jacket shows really how gorgeous they are. This piece will be for sale at ‘The Boutique’ Wearables show at Anglesea Art Space opening November 19th. Size M-L

I’m a bit excited! I think this might be my best embroidery yet. Yes the Blue wren is my favourite and I found this gorgeous blue organic linen Gorman dress to embroider on…should I do both birds? To be honest….yes I’m getting a bit tired of the intensity of embroidery so this might be the last piece for ‘The Boutique’ Anglesea Art Space in November. Just going with the feels, keeping it fun which always results in the best outcomes! ❤️

Feeling great to end the week with finishing off the Yellowtail Black Cockatoo jumpsuit. It’s been a really challenging day with my son being so exhausted after first week back into the routine, but after his meltdown he fell asleep in the car which gave me a moment to finish this piece while looking at the view in Barwon Heads. It’s been with me the entire holiday and now it’s done! Love that I can visualise embroidering this piece while the Yellowtails flew across the sky in ! Everyone Wins! 🥇 😴 🪡
