When Fairfax & Roberts first opened its doors on Sydney’s George St in 1858, a journey of luxury bespoke jewellery began. Originally a firm that focussed on watchmaking, including the original clock at Sydney’s Central Station, Fairfax & Roberts soon began to make a name for themselves as creators of fine jewellery – objects that were exquisitely designed and crafted and destined to bec
ome treasured possessions and heirlooms. Our maker’s mark was registered at the Assay office in London and our hand-crafted pieces still carry that stamp today – a mark that speaks of heritage, quality and authenticity. The legend of Fairfax & Roberts’ house style was built by skilled craftsmen and women. Apprenticed for decades before turning a refined and meticulous hand to the precious jewels, gold and platinum that bear the insignia of Fairfax & Roberts, each artisan has devoted their lifetime to produce a few masterpieces. A century and a half later, Fairfax & Roberts still trades in precious jewels as well as specialising in client commissions. We maintain our own exclusive workshop (which customers are free to visit), where pieces are hand-carved, hand-set and designed only for the client for whom they are commissioned. Fairfax & Roberts is now Australia’s oldest established jeweller and continues to work with some of Australia’s most prominent families as well as royalty and heads of state. Our pieces combine gemstones of the highest quality with precious metals to create one-of-a-kind pieces that have been tightly held by the families who commissioned them. Many of these exquisite legacy pieces have rarely been seen outside the homes of these wealthy and private citizens.
