A little more silver, a little more meaning

The new Septiņdienu (7-day) Bangle is made entirely from sterling silver, with a soft brushed finish and seven small symbolic tassels.

Inspired by traditional Latvian symbols, it’s a simple piece with a story behind it — and one that feels just as at home every day as it does for a special occasion.

Pretty proud of getting this amount of work ready and in store at Goolugatup in Applecross, Perth. There are some lovely Latvian inspired pieces but also some fun minimalist and sculptural designs. Goolugatup is open six days a week 10-4, closed Mondays.

I spoke to a dear friend recently who took her father back to Latvia and was in Riga during the Baltic Way, they stood hand in hand with family on the streets of Riga. She spoke with great emotion recalling the experience. It is staggering to think how 2 million people could coordinate and mobilise across three countries creating a human chain of 675km, prior to mobile phones and the internet. It shows both the desperation of the situation and the resilience of the people.

This counter-balance ring in sterling silver plays with weight, form and quiet movement — a sculptural piece made to sit effortlessly on the hand.

As always you have to ignore my fingernails, I'm a messy crafts person, not a hand model.

I'm re-making a few of the designs I made when I first got back into silver smithing. I'm updating them a little now I have learnt more.

For this one I've used a thicker ring band so it feels really solid on your hand and I've intentionally kept the more organic feel of the brass element, the marks of tools and hand are evident. For this reason no two are ever the same.

This one will be available through my website soon, or via DM now. I always drag my feet when it comes to the photography and listing. Just like I'm not a hand model I'm also not a photographer or graphic designer. Sometimes i really wish the modern artist only had to make work rather than content.
