A 500 year old innovation exclusive to Bidar, capital of the Bahamani Empire in the 16th century currently situated at the northern part of Karnataka. Bidriware is cast with an alloy of zinc, copper and other non-ferrous metals. Beautiful patterns are engraved on the casting and inlaid with pure silver w

ire. The casting is then soaked in a solution mixed with the soil of Bidar Fort which has special oxidizing properties. This causes the zinc alloy to transform into a lustrous black gradient leaving the silver inlay intact to contrast stunningly with the black background. Bidri work boasts of versatility, design originality and fine craftsmanship. The sleek and smooth dark colored metal work with intricate eye catching designs on its glossy surface, is famous all over the world. The black and white combination of the craft makes it attractive and appealing. Like all genuine handicraft processes, Bidriware does not use any machines and is solely done by hand.
