So many mum’s are shamed for following their instincts. You do you boo.
To the moms who contact nap—who sit still for hours while a little body sleeps soundly on their chest or in their arms—I see you.
You might be hearing people say, “You’re spoiling them,” or “They’ll never learn to sleep on their own,” or “You’ll never get anything done like that.”
But here you are, choosing presence over productivity. Choosing stillness in a world that tells you to go, go, go.
And I hope you know how powerful that is.
Because contact naps aren’t lazy.
They aren’t a bad habit.
They’re sacred.
They’re the deep inhale of a baby’s breath against your skin.
The warmth of tiny fingers curled around yours.
The sound of a heartbeat syncing with yours like it did not that long ago.
And sure… your coffee goes cold.
Your phone dies under your leg.
You have to p*e so badly.
Your to-do list sits untouched while you sit in the same position for what feels like an eternity with a numb arm and a full heart.
But one day, they won’t fit in your arms like this.
One day, they’ll stop needing your chest to fall asleep.
One day, you’ll set them down and they won’t cry for you.
And one day, you’ll miss the weight of them sleeping on you like they were still part of you.
So if contact naps are what works, what soothes, what brings peace to both of you—keep doing it.
The laundry can wait.
The dishes will still be there.
But that baby? That sleepy little soul in your arms? They won’t stay little forever.
So for now, soak it in.
The weight. The warmth. The quiet.
Because these are the moments they’ll never remember—but you’ll never forget.
