One-of-a-kind ‘Celestial Frequency’ earrings I designed and crafted for the Coclor Coded exhibition, now on
Considering the symbolism of light as a resonant and holographic wave of cosmic information, I wanted to create a piece that is both colourful yet also evokes a gentle dreamy quality, connecting to the phenomena of our earth, solar system and galaxies beyond. Like a rainbow prism, focused into physical form and filtering in colour from other dimensional realms, this one-of-a-kind pair of earrings represent the frequency of light combined with sacred geometry and a soft rainbow of colour that could be found dancing in the etheric realms.
I was enamoured by the stunning kaleidoscopic nature of Australian boulder opal that capture this prism-like quality of colour in a single stone, which I matched with the soft hue of 9 karat yellow gold and a subtle gradation of pink tourmaline and garnet to highlight the delicate and cosmic tones within them.
After experimenting and trialling several prototypes, I landed on this final design. Every element was carefully considered, finding the right balance of scale and weight so as not to be too heavy, or hanging at an angle when worn on the ear. The top of the earring gently hugs the ear lobe and a durable gold bezel wraps protectively around the delicate opals, while the claw settings above ensure the faceted stones dance playfully in the light.
