An exceptional natural opalised belemnite fossil specimen, preserved on the original host material exactly as it was found. The specimen was carefully removed and polished while retaining its natural position and character.

This is an incredibly rare piece featuring a beautifully preserved, complete belemnite with an excellent pointed termination and visible flashes of natural opal colour.

Look at the size of this opalised belemnite! 🤯 This would have come from a huge prehistoric squid-like creature swimming through the ancient seas of Australia.

Now, over 65 million years later, it has been preserved and replaced with Australian opal. An incredible piece of natural history and one seriously impressive fossil.

Opalised shell from Coober Pedy 🇦🇺🐚

Just wait until I turn this one around… it is so close to being a perfect shell.

With fossils like this, it’s extremely important to preserve the original shell pattern. If you grind too far and remove that fossil detail, you can instantly lose a huge amount of its value — it stops being valued as an exceptional fossil specimen and starts being judged more on the opal itself.

This piece is seriously special. Museum-grade material and an incredible example of Australian opalised fossil preservation.

This is from the Lightning Ridge knobby parcel I’ve got up for sale — works out to only around $10 a knobby on average. I picked out one of the nicer-looking pieces to have a crack at.
